Monthly variation in the macrozoobenthic community structure in Monolimni Lagoon (Evros Delta, N. Aegean Sea)

Description
The dataset contains data on the presence of macrobenthos from 2 stations in the Monolmni Lagoon in the Ervos Delta which were sampled monthly in 1998. more
4 replicate samples were collected at each station for faunal analysis. Samples were taken using a Modified van Veen grab with a sample surface of 400cm² and depth penetration up to 20cm. A special net was used for the collection of the epibenthic decapods and small fishes. This net had a a square opening of 40 cm on each side and it was pulled on the sediment along a 10 m distance. At each station, a sediment sample was taken with a small corer for particle size analysis and estimation of organic matter. A number of datarecords are uncertain, and are therefore not included in Eurobis. The results showed that the macrozoobenthic community structure and dynamics at low salinities (0.3 - 6 psu) in Monolimni Lagoon were investigated monthly. Community structure showed an almost even seasonal periodicity. The main structuring factors of the community in the deeper outer part of the lagoon were water temperature and depth, and in the innermost part, where a Ruppia meadow occurred, were water temperature and predation pressure by crabs and gobies.
